Bargain Hunters

If you are a bargain hunter, one of your favorite parts of any store is the clearance aisle; in the grocery store, this includes the day old rack and markdown sections. Serious online bargain hunters will be pleased to know that Amazon has its own warehouse deals section, including a hefty selection of technology, as well as products from various other departments. Further, there is a "Manager's Specials" section in Warehouse Deals, highlighting short dated products approaching their "sell by" dates.

Snacks and Cookies, Breakfast Foods, Beverages, Pantry Supplies, Baking Supplies, and Health & Personal Care are the particular categories highlighted in Amazon Manager's Specials, with a number of products available under each. As with a store's clearance section, these items will be limited in number and time available. Discounts range, with some being minimal, some being quite deep, very worthwhile. Many of these grocery items are eligible for Free Super Saver Shipping, meaning that at least $25 purchased in eligible items earns free shipping, making the deal a little sweeter.

Items shown are selected from the Manager's Specials pages, linked above. Note that the item pages below will not necessarily show the other manager's specials. I stumbled across this specials page from Amazon's Homepage. However, the link provided will give you the ability to explore, not only the grocery deals, but also the technology and other products offered in the "warehouse".

Amazon deals can be really great, especially for those who may not have quick access to a wide range of stores. Living rurally, for example, I find it more costly to travel into the next big town for groceries, than to purchase at a higher price locally. The company, however, alleviates some of that by making some great products available at comparable costs. Furthermore, free super saver shipping, and Prime, make it possible to purchase some of these goods without the extra costs normally incurred with online ordering.

Non-sale items available in Amazon's Grocery department can also provide some surprising savings. I recently found that a Maxwell House ground coffee listing was comparable to what I was paying at my local Wal-Mart. Computing the Subscribe and Save cost, which entails a 15% discount for an auto-ship order, set to ship every 1, 2, 3, or 6 months, I decided to purchase through Amazon because the Subscribe and Save total was less costly than my WalMart investment.

Lest you worry that you are signed up for life, let me tell you that Subscribe and Save is very flexible, and you can cancel a shipment if you need to, or arrange to have it sent sooner, if you find that your supply of a given product has run low.

Celestial Seasonings Herb Tea, Sleepytime, 20-Count Tea Bags (Pack of 6)
Much less expensive than grocery store cost, and moreso with subscribe and save. I save even more than through a local buying co-op.
Amazon Price: $14.94
List Price: $24.36

I began using Subscribe and Save for an energy chew product that my husband likes, last summer. The Amazon price is about 30% less than what he was paying at a nutrition store, and we have easily altered the number of packages in shipments, postponed shipments, and accelerated shipment in the last year. We are very pleased with this, and have gone on to Subscribe and Save with coffee and tea favorites. My Celestial Seasonings favorite, Sleepy Time Tea, is $1/box less with Subscribe and Save, and I can get 6 boxes at a time, with the delivery scheduled for each 6 months. If I need it sooner, I can move the next delivery date up, and maintain my 6 month interim.

Non-Grocery Items

Non-Grocery Warehouse Deals are available in the following categories: TV and Video, Electronics, Video Games, Kitchen, and Housewares. As the Warehouse Deals main page explains, these are returned items, which Amazon inspects to assure that the product is working. The quality is assigned, and a discount price is assigned. As you explore the products available, clicking a product link will take you to the page displaying the details and specs for the item, along with information on "available from these sellers". Clicking the given "these sellers" link from a given item, you will find a display with tabs for "all", "new", and "used", allowing you to examine the various options and prices for purchasing the given item new, or used (through Amazon's open box/returned item option).  While this may not be an ideal option for everyone, it may well suit the needs of individuals who do not require a brand new, in the box item.
