Selecting A Diet Delivery Service: An Overview of Some Popular Weight Loss Systems
67Why A Diet Delivery Service?
As one contends with weight loss, selecting a weight loss system may often seem more like a roll of the dice. There are so many focal points brought into consideration, whether it be carb counting, low-fat, or calorie counting. Many people find that a do-it-yourself approach, whether following a specific diet, or working with one's own intuition, becomes a dreary and discouraging task. The busy-ness of life often finds us in compromising circumstances as we run to and fro with work, children, and a multitude of interests and activities. Those aspects of life seem to control and dictate our diet options, and the uphill battle of the bulge can become quite discouraging. A diet delivery service may be just the plan for you, providing pre packaged diet food delivered directly to your home, with support and counseling provided remotely via phone or internet. Following are some reasons for selecting this popular approach, along with highlights of some of the options available.
Discouraged?
One of the top reasons for selecting a delivered diet plan weight loss system is discouragement. Perhaps you have tried to improve your eating. Perhaps, you've had mild successes, only to find yourself going backwards once again. Maybe your physician has lectured you, chastised, prescribed appetite suppressants, and still, your scale is moving the wrong direction, or standing still.
A sense of hopelessness often attacks the one who seems unable to gain control of his or her weight. Resigned to a life of discomfort, we grab that bag of chips and dig in. Or, we begin to examine extreme measures, such as lapband surgery. With preclusive costs, we again find ourselves despairing and discouraged. It seems we will never gain control.
The good news is that a delivered diet often is available in conjunction with support. The most popular and publicized services have active websites, and a staff of counselors, in order to assist the dieter with questions and concerns throughout the program. Further consultation is an avenue to analyze and target specific issues. Accountability is established as weights are tracked, whether in personal contact with an individual, or through entry of data on one's personal page. Further, email is used to provide weekly tips and motivations. The costs are not nearly as steep as those of surgery, and pre packaged foods provide exciting menu options which make eating enjoyable.
For the discouraged dieter, a prepared food program, delivered to your door, is a viable road to gaining the upper hand in weight loss.
Learning By Doing
Many times, our diets fail because we don't take well to portion and calorie control; after all, every fast food establishment encourages us to "super size" it. Further, our nutrition choices may be lacking. By selecting a delivery weight loss system, one is gaining the benefit of balanced nutrition provided in appropriate quantity. The individual is still responsible for selecting certain parts of the food from the grocer, but the main meals and snacks are provided in correct portions. As an individual proceeds with such a diet, he or she is able to adjust to these appropriate portions, and become more able to eat less. One of the biggest obstacles to a diet is avoiding overeating, and the pre packaged delivery diet helps an individual to contend with this challenge. Though there may be difficulty at the outset, the support provided assists in re-shaping one's attitude toward portions, nutrition, and provides encouragement rather than rebuke for one's lapses. Positive reinforcement and uplifting encouragement are key to the success of such a diet.
Time Saving Benefit For Busy Folks
In a harried and hurried world, grab and go foods are often the most viable option. The time needed to prepare healthy foods that are diet friendly seems elusive. Fast foods and snack foods often carry us from one activity to the next. Many of the weight loss systems have delivery plans which provide foods that transport well, working into our schedules. While some of the foods may require the use of a microwave, others are intended to be portable meals. Further, the supplemental information provided through consultation or updates helps one to learn more about dealing with eating out, assisting in a better decision making plan when it comes to eating on the go.
The delivery to one's home eliminates the time needed to shop, though there will still be a need to purchase produce and dairy items to fit within the menu plan. The portability eliminates the need to quickly stop and select from a fast food menu, and realistically, those hurried choices are often our worst. Delivered diets adhere to our schedules.
Many Options
There are many diet delivery services, though some are better known than others. They range from full meal plans, to use of specific items in place of meals. Some offer support and counseling, while others provide only a product. Some pre-plan everything, whereas some allow for choices in menu items. Some foods require freezer and refrigerator space, whereas others provide shelf-stable diet foods. Some programs offer both. With some programs, it is all or nothing, while others allow for individual items and entrees to be purchased. As you research the possibilities, you will, no doubt, find plans that fit your needs and interests. Before committing to any one, you will most certainly want to research the ins and outs of the program, weighing your needs against their services and products. Some of the better known options are highlighted below.
Jenny Craig's Weight Loss System
Jenny Craig is a great option for those who desire a supportive program with delicious foods. Personalized consultation accompanies delicious foods. Programs range from "Jenny Trial" to "Jenny Craig Silver", "Jenny Craig for Men", "Jenny Craig for Teens", "Jenny Craig Type 2", and "Jenny Craig Premium Success". Costs will vary, so be sure to research the options. Be sure to get all the information you need on the commitment and costs, as these may vary based on promotions. There may be a charge for joining, and it would be to your benefit to research what deals are available before making a firm commitment.
Nutrisystem
Nutrisystem, like Jenny Craig, has various programs tailored to particular needs. Beyond the basic plan, there is a Silver Plan, a Diabetic Plan, and a Vegetarian Plan. While most of the foods are shelf-stable, there is also a selection of Nutrisystem Select foods, which require refrigerator or freezer storage. Individual foods can be purchased ala carte. It is possible to pre-purchase the jumpstart 14 or 28 day program through a number of retailers, including Walgreens and WalMart, and through warehouse clubs such as Costco. Continued participation results in discounts after a certain number of monthly orders, and shipping is free with the auto-ship program. Support is available via telephone and online.
Medifast
Medifast is a weight loss system which also offers programs for men, women, and diabetics, with vegetarian approved selections. Whereas Jenny Craig and Nutrisystem offer entrees, Medifast leaves it to the participant to eat one "lean green" meal each day, including a lean meat and veggies/salad. Individual items can be purchased, or a full program.
The Zone
The Zone Diet offers programs with meals and products for delivery, with discounts for auto-shipping.
High End Plans
Diet to Go, Ediets, and BistroMD, are among some of the less commonly known, but higher end weight loss systems which provide meal delivery. A bit more costly than Nutrisystem and Jenny Craig.
Cookies and More
Some delivery weight loss systems are more along the lines of meal replacers, limited to bars, shakes, cookies, and such, with those items being used in place of meals and snacks, and emphasizing that the consumer eat a well balanced lunch or dinner during the day. These include the Hollywood Cookie Diet, Smart For Life, and Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet.
The FullBar Diet offers products meant to cause a sensation of fullness, much as lapband surgery. While it doesn't replace meals, it complements them by assisting the consumer in limiting eating.
Many of these particular products are available through online retailers such as Amazon.com, as well as through the product websites linked above. Again, delivery to the home permits saving of time, and for the timid dieter wanting to try a new program, these offer means of examining a sampling of the products.
If you have engaged in the battle of the bulge, and feel that you cannot make further progress on your own, these are some weight loss systems worth investigating. While you still must bear responsibility for adherence to the plan, it is often encouraging and motivating to have the availability of a professional or a community devoted to your cause and to your success. Some programs target specific issues, while others bear the majority of the burden of meal planning and preparation. Getting you to your goal is their goal, and your success is theirs. While some carry higher price tags than others, the investment in your health can be well worth the while. Do your research, make contact with those you see as viable, and make a positive move in your weight loss program!

I don't believe in "dieting" as much as I believe in eating a healthy diet. Eating fresh food with quality ingredients (and exercise of course) will keep you healthy and trim at the same time.
