Review: iHome LED Color-Changing Speaker System with Built-In Subwoofer for iPod

The iHome LED Color Changing Speaker System is a hit with my tween/teen girls, and is one of the more fun music accessories I have come across, well, with the exception of the colorful iPod Nano. This is a great gift for the tween and teen girl in your life, providing she already has that iPod.

You have to admit, Apple has made music more fashionable and portable than ever, and with the evolution of the iPod and mp3 players over the last 5 years, the music players have become more sleek and stylish than ever, while functionality improves with each new generation released for sale. 5 years ago I was purchasing CD/Cassette players for my then tween daughters, thinking I was a pretty hip mom to get them such nice things, and at great prices. However, those have gone by the wayside, as a slick little ipod in fashionable color has replaced that bulky boom box for all listening needs.

My first look caused me to check into other speaker possibilities because I examined the device in a brightly lit store.  The changing colors appeared dim and washed out.  Not the intended venue for that functionality.  I re-considered after reading some reviews, and both the girls and I were glad I did.  In the dark, the colors are vibrant and fun, very bright.  The volume is great, and the iPod is able to charge while docked in this speaker.  While non iPod devices won't dock, there is an input for other external audio devices.  This is compatible for docking with iPod mini; iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G; iPod classic 4G, 5G, 5.5G, 6G; iPod touch 1G, 2G.

Unlike those bulky boom boxes, the iHome LED Color Changing Speaker is not a space hog.  It will fit easily on a desk or shelf.  It doesn't take up a bunch of space.

There are many speakers available, and the least expensive ones, from what I've seen, don't charge the device as it plays.  There are extremely expensive speakers, as well, far outside of my gift giving budget during the holidays.  The iHome speaker fits my specifications in terms of good value and quality.

I spent a lot of time considering different speaker possibilities last year, and when it came to my final decision, I was glad I selected the iHome LED Color-Changing Speaker System.
