67The Southern Nevada economy is among the most severely affected in the last couple of years, and having many friends and relatives who live in the area, I'm aware of many segments of the population being pressed, more by the month, in terms of wage loss, hour reductions, furlough days, and lay offs. There are few streets where there isn't at least one house, maybe more, with foreclosure signs. Grocery stores are chaotic on the first of the month, when food stamp benefits re-charge for the cycle. Southern Nevada jobs are stressed, as are the people who hold them, lose them, or seek them.
As families feel that crunch, it's been interesting for me, in the last year(almost), to see how my writing at HubPages has developed, and at the same time, to see the monetization opportunities begin to provide extra funds for our household. This article was written at the end of July, about 6 1/2 months into my experience with HubPages, and now, at 11 months, I am a week into the month, with earnings equivalent to approximately all of my first 6 1/2 months put together. It's not a quick fix, but it is something practical, if you are interested in augmenting your household earnings. If you are a good learner, you can really make great progress.
